Lions Fans React To The Unknown: Winning

By Christy Strawser, CBS Detroit

DETROIT (WWJ) Cut them some slack, they're not used to it. It's like a movie where up is down and down is up, one where dogs and cats make best friends.

How are you supposed to act? Detroit Lions fans, accustomed to disappointment, are suddenly finding themselves in an unusual situation -- the team is winning, pulling out wins in the clutch, playing in a way that they can cheer, and cheer loudly.

The third straight come from behind win for the Lions on Sunday left the team with their best start in more than 20 years. They're 7-2, with four straight wins.

So how are fans reacting to the team's success? Looks like they're handling it the only way they can.

Tim Webb of New Baltimore is still skeptical, saying, "I'm not ready to start drinking the Kool-Aid yet, they've got Arizona, then they've got New England. If they beat New England, I'll start drinking the Kool-Aid."

On the other hand, Tom Apple of Macomb Township has jumped on the Lions express bandwagon and is getting off at every stop to crow about his team.

"They're strong everywhere around," Apple said.

What makes this year different than years' past? "Discipline," he said.

WWJ's Ron Dewey drove around metro Detroit Monday morning talking to Lions fans -- which wasn't as fraught with peril as it usually would be after a typical mid-season Lions game. In fact, most of the fans he talked to said they expect the team to make the playoffs.

How far will they get? Only time will tell.

Thomas Mireno of Redford says, "They're doing really, really good, it seems like they're a working team now. They might do it!"
