MSU Recalls Some Cookie Products With Concern Of Metal Shaving Contamination

EAST LANSING (WWJ) -- Michigan State University is recalling the MSU Bakers Decorated Sugar Cookies, Udder Delight's Swiss Chocolate Chip Ice Cream Cookie Sandwiches and Udder Delight's Classic Chocolate Chip Ice Cream Cookie Sandwich, as announced Friday.

An employee said that a machine used in the production process was malfunctioning,  potentially contaminating the food with metal shavings.

The products have already been pulled from the shelves and there have been no reports of any injuries. Here's the full release, via MLive.com:

"Michigan State University, in coordination with the Michigan Department of Agriculture, announced Nov. 14 it is recalling several cookie and ice cream products due to potential contamination of metal shavings.
The recalled products are MSU Bakers Decorated Sugar Cookies, Udder Delight's Swiss Chocolate Chip Ice Cream Cookie Sandwich and Udder Delight's Classic Chocolate Chip Ice Cream Cookie Sandwich.

On Nov. 13, an employee discovered that a machine used in the production process was malfunctioning and immediately notified supervisors. The Michigan Department of Agriculture, the regulatory agency for the state that oversees food production, was notified and began an inspection. Production of the products in question was immediately ceased, and all known products were pulled from retail shelves.

There have been no reports of injury due to the possible contamination. If a customer still has any of the noted products, please segregate them and contact the MSU Bakery. MSU will dispose of the products and credit accounts. Anyone with questions can contact MSU Bakers at 517-353-9315.
