Tigers Purchase Contracts of Two Players

DETROIT - The Detroit Tigers today announced the club has purchased the contracts of righthanded pitcher Angel Nesbitt and infielder Dixon Machado from Double A Erie.

Nesbitt, 23, posted a 3-0 record, 1.49 ERA (66.2IP/11ER), 72 strikeouts and 20 saves in 48 appearances between Single A Lakeland and Double A Erie during the 2014 season. He limited opponents to a .183 batting average (43x235) between both levels. He was named a midseason All-Star and also selected a postseason All-Star for the 2014 season. He was selected the Tigers Minor League Pitcher of the Month for May after posting a 0.55 ERA (16.1IP/1ER), 15 strikeouts, and 10 saves in 13 games with Lakeland.

Machado, 22, hit .286 (129x451) with 75 runs scored, 31 doubles, two triples, six home runs and 40 RBI in 131 games between Single A Lakeland and Double A Erie in 2014. After being promoted to Erie, he batted .305 (89x292) with 23 doubles, one triple, five home runs and 32 RBI in 90 games. Machado was tabbed the Eastern League Player of the Month for August, batting .410 (34x83) with 17 runs scored, six doubles, three home runs and 15 RBI in 25 games with the SeaWolves.

The Tigers 40-man roster now stands at 40.
