Prepare For Black Friday With Twitter Wednesday

By Edward Cardenas

SOUTHFIELD (CBS Detroit) - A new holiday shopping trend is expected to take over social media on Wednesday as shoppers take to Twitter to share the best deals for the coming weekend.

Russ Laraway told Mainstreet that "Twitter Wednesday" will be the biggest days for shoppers to send Tweets about #deals, #savings and #coupons.

According to a survey Twitter conducted with research firm Millward Brown, 52 percent of Twitter users saw something on Twitter that prompted them to make a holiday purchase.

Twenty five percent of Twitter users found out about a sale on Twitter, and 24 percent saw a promoted tweet or ad on Twitter.

Another study by DB5 for Twitter found that Twitter was able to drive in-store sales primarily among millennials with 13 percent saying the social network influenced their purchase decisions during the 2013 holiday season.

The survey also found that Twitter users spend more during the holidays than non-users, and were more likely to shop impulsively. In fact, the survey found 39 percent of respondents stated it was "indispensable" tool in finding gift ideas.
