Michigan Film Office Approves Five New Projects To Be Filmed Throughout Michigan

LANSING (WWJ) -- The Michigan Film Office has announced that five projects have been approved for film and digital media incentives.

Four of the projects will be filmed in metro Detroit, while the other will be shot in Ludington, Manistee and Mackinac Island. Public Relations Manager for the Michigan Film Office Michelle Grinnell said that 27 projects were approved for incentives in the 2014 fiscal year, being awarded $63,761,132 on $245,498,437 of approved production expenditures for the year.

"It's a great sort of basket showing the diversity of Michigan's film and digital media industry and also how Michigan is a great place to do everything from the high-profile studio projects all the way on down to these great independent films here in the state," Grinnell said.

Grinnell said that it's been a year to remember for the creative community.

"This was another great year for us, we were able to approve 27 projects with the fiscal year 2014 funding," Grinnell said. "You had Batman vs. Superman in town so it's been a really great year for us."

The five projects – Mickey Matson and the Helm of Darkness, Destined, Preachers of Detroit, Tommy Battles the Silver Sea Dragon and 1-to-1 Fan – have all been given the green light to begin filming in Detroit and the metro area.

"These five projects showcase our efforts to support independent films and series in the state, as well as projects within the digital media industry,"director of the Michigan Film Office Margaret O'Riley said. "This year has illustrated that Michigan can support a major studio project and at the same time be a terrific place to make independent films."

The projects are expected to create 2,181 hires with a full-time equivalent of 1,298 jobs.
