Closing Arguments In Bob Bashara Murder Case Prep Jury For Deliberations
DETROIT (WWJ) -- It took several hours Wednesday, but closing arguments concluded in the murder trial of Grosse Pointe Park businessman Bob Bashara, who is charged with first-degree murder in the death of his wife, Jane Bashara.
The jury is scheduled to being deliberations on Thursday. Jane Bashara's body was found in her SUV in Detroit in 2012. Bob Bashara is accused of coercing handyman Joseph Gentz to strangle her.
With more than 70 witnesses and 500 pieces of evidence, one of the largest tasks for the jury will be keeping all of the pieces in place. Assistant prosecutor Lisa Lindsey told the jury that Jane Bashara's lost ring will help them put some key pieces of evidence together.
"It is more than a cosmic coincidence that Jane Bashara's expensive wedding ring goes missing right before she gets killed and right after midnight on the 25th, Joseph Gentz is talking to somebody about getting sized for a ring," Lindsey said.
During the weeks of the trial, jurors heard testimony from police, the Bashara children, friends and even girlfriends -- who talked about Bob Bashara's "sex dungeon."
Bob Bashara's defense attorney Michael McCarthy said that there is plenty of reasonable doubt in the case. He said that Bob Bashara's adultery doesn't make him responsible for murder.
"This man was going to benefit from continuing to be married to Jane Bashara, the loyal wife who is his partner," McCarthy said.
