Several Arrested In Texas In Washtenaw County Armed Home Invasions

AUSTIN, Texas (WWJ) - Several people have been arrested in a string of armed home invasions in Washtenaw County believed to be targeting Asians.

The crimes happened in November.

According to the Washtenaw County Sheriff's Office, in each of the cases, a teenager knocked at the door while two others hid nearby. When the door was opened, all three rushed in, tied up the victims and searched the house for money, jewelry and electronic devices.

All of the victims — in Ann Arbor Townshi, Ypsilanti Township, Canton Township and the city of Ann Arbor — appeared to have been specifically targeted based on their Asian or Asian-Indian descent, according to Sheriff's officials.

"We really want to get the word out to the Asian-Indian community just to be aware and to be mindful," Sherriff's Office spokesman Derrick Jackson said as a suspect sketch was released early this month.

Investigators found similar cases occurred in New Jersey, Georgia, and most recently in Texas — thus leading to the arrests in the Austin area.

Additional arrests and charges are expected, as the investigation is ongoing.

The suspects names were not immediately released.
