If I lived in Framingham, Mass., I think I would have a "get out of jail free" card -- because I have a lot of shoes, many, many shoes.

A man in the Framingham district court this past Friday told the judge he didn't have money for bail and couldn't pay $450 he owed the court for a previous offense, but he could offer up something in exchange. His Nike shoes, which were valued at $85.

How did an allegedly penniless man have $85 shoes? He said they were a Christmas gift.

The judge accepted, saying, "OK, we'll take them."

Jason Duval, 30, had been arrested on a warrant for a previous offense.

According to metrowestdailnews.com :

Duval said he was going through a divorce and had no money. Stoddart told Duval he didn't trust him to release him without bail because the judge said he didn't believe Duval would pay any money. He offered to send Duval to jail for a few days and then do away with the court costs, but Duval said he didn't want that to happen.

Duval will be able to get his shoes back by paying installments of $25.
