Couple Describes Van Embedded On, Pulled By Tractor-Trailer

GRAYLING, Mich. (AP) - A couple describe being trapped in their minivan as it was pulled 16 miles along Interstate 75 in northern Michigan after becoming lodged beneath the rear of a tractor-trailer.

The Grand Rapids Press has posted an about 3-minute segment of a call Matthew and Pamela Menz made early Wednesday to Roscommon County's 911.

Pamela Menz tells the operator that their van "ran into the back of a semi-truck and he's not stoppin'."

Matthew Menz says he wouldn't "have any control" of the van if it was released from the truck.

The couple's two adult children also were in the van.

The accident occurred during heavy snowfall. Police say the truck driver was unaware he was pulling the minivan.

Sheriff's deputies eventually spotted and stopped the truck south of Grayling.
