Man Gunned Down While Shoveling Snow In Detroit
DETROIT (WWJ) - A man is dead after he was shot in the head while shoveling snow on Detroit's west side.
According to Detroit police, it happened around 9:30 a.m. Monday in the 6900 block of Faust Ave., near Warren Ave. and the Southfield Freeway.
Officer Adam Madera said the 34-year-old victim was shoveling the sidewalk in front of a home when he was approached by a man in a brown Carhart jacket who fired multiple shots.
The victim, whose name was not immediately released, was rushed to a local hospital where he died a short time later.
Madera said investigators don't yet know if the victim knew the shooter or if this was a robbery.
"As of right now it's unclear; really no witnesses to it," Madera told WWJ Newsradio 950.
"(We're) not exactly certain on the circumstances or if...he was targeted in any way. As of right now it appears to be random," Madera said. "But, I mean, it's still very early so we don't have a motive as of this point."
Madera said that whole no one seems have witnessed the shooting itself, the suspect was spotted running from the scene. Other than the jacket, there is no description available of the shooter.
"It's very unfortunate, very tragic," Madera added, "But, no, I certainty don't think that you need to be afraid to shovel your snow."
The victim's name was not immediately released.
