Royal Oak Farmers Market Puts Local Produce, Organic Products In The Spotlight

ROYAL OAK (WWJ) -- Looking for fresh locally grown fruit and vegetables, but don't know where to buy them?

Shelly Mazur is the market manager at the Royal Oak Farmers Market and said that each weekend local farmers come together to sell their products downtown.

"With the local movement becoming bigger and growing, and people wanting to know where their food is grown and where it comes from, we have more and more farmers who are heating their greenhouses," Mazur said. "We have more locally grown food and eggs and meats and everything all year-round."

Mazur says that all fruit and produce at the market is locally grown. The farmers market is held every Saturday, while the antique collectibles market take place each Sunday all year.

"We have fresh-grown Michigan vegetables, we have certified organic, we have free-range chicken and eggs and meats and grass-fed beef," Mazur said.

The Farmers Market is located in the Civic Center at the corner of 11 Mile Road and Troy Street, across from the Library and adjacent to the 44th District Court.

More details, dates and times of specialty shows can be found at the Royal Oak Farmers Market Facebook page.
