Windsor Tunnel Closed While Border Control Investigates Suspicious Package

DETROIT (WWJ) - A scare at the border has forced the closed of Detroit Windsor tunnel in both directions Tuesday night.

Windsor Police Staff Sergeant Jason Crowley says it all began when two people were being questioned by Customs officials on the Windsor side of the tunnel.

"Currently we are investigating a suspicious package that came through the tunnel in a vehicle on the Canadian side of it," Sgt. Crowley, "and the tunnel is closed right now."

Crowley says the package was discovered during a secondary inspection of the vehicle. Two people are being detained while the bomb squad investigates the package. Police are not revealing their identities or what made the package suspicious.
