1 Killed In Double Shooting Near Michigan State Campus

EAST LANSING (WWJ) - Police are investigating a shooting near the Michigan State University campus in East Lansing that left one man dead and another injured.

The incident unfolded around just before midnight Thursday after police received a report of multiple shots being fired in the Grove St. Parking Garage, not far from Abbot Road and Burcham Drive.

When officers arrived on the scene, they found two men suffering from gunshot wounds. Both were transported to the hospital, where 22-year-old Michael Anthony Smith, of Dewitt Township, died of multiple gunshot wounds.

The other man, a 21-year-old, received treatment for a gunshot wound to the wrist and is now recovering at home. Neither of the victims are Michigan State University students.

Investigators are trying to determine a motive for the shooting, but say it does not appear to be random.

Police are searching for two suspects. The first is described as a black male about 5'9" tall and between 160 and 185 pounds. The second suspect is also a black male,  about 5'11" tall and approximately 200 pounds.

Police say the suspects were seen fleeing the scene in a vehicle described as a red, four-door sedan, possibly a Lincoln or Dodge.

Anyone with information on the incident is urged to contact police at 517-319-6884.
