Virgin Atlantic Seeking High-Flying Love Stories

By Edward Cardenas

SOUTHFIELD (CBS Detroit) - Detroit Metropolitan Airport's newest carrier is looking for love stories from 30,000 feet.

The idea for the airline to share love stories started after its founder, Sir Richard Branson, was bumped from a flight that was bringing him to meet a "beautiful lady," who would become his wife.

He hired a plane with other passengers who had been bumped, and the airline was born.

"With romance in our DNA ... we were feeling particularly amorous this year and asked our flyers to share some of their travel-related love tales with us," Jaime Fraser, corporate communications program manager, wrote in an email.

The airline will share the best stories on Virgin Atlantic's social media accounts on TwitterFacebook and Instagram, along with the airline's website.

Some of the stories already shared include:

Virgin Atlantic will begin flying from Metro to London Heathrow on June 1. Virgin is taking over the summer-only service Delta Air Lines currently operates and will be extending it to a year-round service, according to the company.
