Could The Selfie License Plate Fund Michigan Roads?

By Tom Millikan

One of the burning issues facing Michigan residents is how to fund the cost of fixing our roadways. Governor Rick Snyder is pushing a one percent hike in our sales tax. And while I'm not against the sales tax increase, I do think all other avenues should be explored.

'Pot for Potholes' is one creative alternative that has made headway on social media. But the reality of the situation is marijuana is years from being made legal in Michigan like it is in Colorado.

Instead of something as radical as pot, I think I've come up with something that might actually take off and make Michigan a trendsetter. What would you think if Michigan became the first state to have the personalized selfie license plate? I think it would take off like wildfire with at least 25% of the state's population possibly purchasing the custom plate.

Here's how it would work: The plate could only be purchased online -- that would put the work on the person, not the state. You would upload your selfie through the state's official license renewal website and it would be approved by facial recognition. The cost of the personalized plate would be $20. That money would go directly towards repairing our roads.

Seems simple, huh?
