Update: Catch up with Chanelle Miles as she prepares for prom and an overnight stay at U-M.

A strong support system is vital when it comes to education. That’s the focus of the latest Eye on Detroit feature.

Senior classmen Chanelle Miles will be one of the first to graduate from the Jalen Rose Leadership Academy in Detroit. She has been given a full scholarship to U-M Ann Arbor.

“Starting in 9th grade the decision to choose a school was a difficult one and it turned out to be the best thing I could have ever done,” said Miles on her choice to go to U-M.

“I believe that it opened new windows of opportunities for me. Instead of being just one dot in a mixture of thousands of other kids I have the opportunity to stick out among my peers,” she added.

This feature is part of CBS 62’s Eye On Detroit series as seen weekdays during “CBS This Morning” between 7 and 9 a.m.

The Eye on Detroit team will follow her until graduation in June. Each month you’ll see another edition of her story.
