Arraigned: Owner Of Pit Bulls Involved In Mauling Warren Man

DETROIT (WWJ) - A Detroit man has been arraigned on charges in connection with a dog attack in Detroit last October.

After months of searching - Derrick Felton was arrested Monday at an east side house.

Detroit Detective Michael Pacteles says Steve Constantine had stopped to help Felton feed his collection of more than a dozen Pit Bulls when he was mauled.

"The dogs became violent and started to bark and growl -- he got scared and walked off the porch, Constantine did, that's when the pack of dogs followed him off the porch and he was then attacked on the sidewalk," said Pacteles.

The dogs attacked and permanently disabled the Warren man.

"I don't want to be too graphic, but the dogs began to start biting him and start ripping off pieces of his body, which included his left arm, his hand, his left leg ..." said Pacteles.

Constantine lost an arm and part of a leg in the attack. Felton has been charged with harboring a vicious animal and if found guilty, could get up to four years in prison.

"These dogs were left to roam the neighborhood," Pacteles said. "There were a few reports that these dogs were terrifying kids walking home from school, kids getting out of their car on a day-to-day basis,"

Constantine has undergone 30 surgeries since the attack.
