No Blarney! Revelers Out Early On St. Patrick's Day (Video)

ROYAL OAK (CBS Detroit) - St. Patrick's Day revelers were out early Tuesday at bars and restaurants throughout Metro Detroit to celebrate Ireland's patron saint.

From the Old Shillelagh in downtown Detroit to O'Connor's Public House in Rochester - and many pubs in between - green was color of choice for those filling the booths and sitting at the bar.

The party was in full swing at Duggan's Irish Pub on Woodward in Royal by 9 a.m. Tuesday. As the party began to ramp up, crews behind scenes in the kitchen were preparing a variety of Irish dishes including some made from the nearly 1,000 pounds of corned beef the pub ordered for St. Patrick's Day weekend.

"It's a very festive day here, and gets really busy during the day," said Duggan's owner Larry Payne, who stated the Dream Cruise is the busiest day of the year. "St Patrick's Day is our second busiest day, but our first busiest drinking day."

For those looking for unique ways to celebrate St. Patrick's Day, the 97.1 Ticket Chicks created a video which shows how to pull leprechaun pranks to play shamrock shake-pong. Additionally, WOMC 104.3 FM will be broadcasting live from Duggan's Tuesday afternoon.

Celebrations could be found throughout the region.  WWJ's Charlie Langton found revelers ranging in age from the college-aged to an 87-year-old at O'Connor's Public House in Rochester whose drink of choice is Miller Lite.

Downtown, the party started early with a line wrapping around the Old Shillelagh.

"It's the best Irish pub in town," Rich Park told WWJ's Ron Dewey at the Old Shillelagh. "It's the place to be."
