Plea Entered In Crash That Killed Couple On Motorcycle

ALLEGAN TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) - A western Michigan woman has pleaded guilty to operating a motor vehicle under the influence of marijuana causing death in connection with a crash that killed a Holland couple.

The Holland Sentinel reports Tuesday that 23-year-old Ciara Byers of Grand Haven entered the plea Monday as part of a deal with prosecutors. She faces up to 15 years in prison at an April 20 sentencing.

Police have said that 69-year-old Robert John Kammeraad and his passenger, 68-year-old Susan Mae Kammeraad, died last June when the motorcycle they were on was hit in southwestern Michigan's Allegan Township, about 30 miles southwest of Grand Rapids.

The newspaper reports that Byers' vehicle hit the couple's motorcycle after swerving to avoid vehicles that had stopped in front of her for a left turn.
