Crews Contain Blaze At Livonia Stone Works Business

LIVONIA (WWJ) - Firefighters have contained a large fire at a commercial business in Livonia.

The fire broke out Wednesday morning at Custom Stone Works on Plymouth Road just east of Farmington Road.

Livonia Fire Chief Shadd Whitehead said his department got a call around 4:45 a.m. from a passerby who saw smoke coming from the building.

"When we arrived crews went to work right away to see how far the fire had extended," Whitehead told WWJ's Mike Campbell. "We basically stopped the fire from entering the warehouse and production area, and we kept the main body of fire to the actual office area and office complex."

Whitehead said the fire might have burned so rapidly because of all the paperwork in the office, adding that crews haven't yet been able to go inside the building to investigate further.

No injuries were reported.

Plymouth Road remains closed as crews continue their investigation.
