Flint Wants To Reconnect To Detroit Water Supply
FLINT (WWJ/AP) - The Flint City Council has voted to stop using the Flint River as the city's primary source of water amid concerns surrounding the troubled municipal water system.
The council approved a resolution Monday to reconnect the city to the Detroit Water and Sewerage Department, according to the Flint Journal. But both emergency manager Jerry Ambrose and Mayor Dayne Walling have spoken out against purchasing Lake Huron water from Detroit again.
Although it's unclear what effect the council's motion will have, Councilman Eric Mays says it could prompt a meeting between Ambrose, Walling, the water department and the state.
Residents have complained about water quality since the city switched to using the Flint River last April.
Flint officials say the water is safe, but the federal government has cited Flint for high levels of a disinfectant by-product.
