Red Wings' Darren Helm Delivers Baby Girl In His Car

(CBS Detroit) Darren Helm has good hands on the ice and, turns out, he has quite the quick turnaround off the ice, too.

Helm and his girlfriend, Devon, welcomed a daughter named Rylee into the world 2:15 a.m. Monday.

And by "welcomed," we mean he and his girlfriend actually delivered her in his car on their way to the hospital.

"It was all her (Devon), by herself," Helm said Tuesday after the Red Wings' morning skate, per the Detroit News. "I was just in the car with her and she was able to take care of business herself.

"It is very remarkable, incredible. I was just trying to get to the hospital as quick as I could."

Rylee weighed in at a healthy 6 pounds, 10 ounces.

Helm explained that his girlfriend woks him up that night and told him it was time to go. They hopped in the car for 20 minute ride to Providence Park Hospital in Novi, but baby Rylee had other ideas and made her appearance on the way there.

Mother and baby are doing fine.
