Road Work, Crowds Could Snarl Traffic On Tigers' Opening Day

DETROIT (AP) — Getting into, around and out of downtown could be challenging on baseball's opening day in Detroit due to crowds and various construction projects.

Detroit police say in a release that delays are expected Monday near Comerica Park where the Tigers will kick off their season.

Work on a light rail project has some lanes closed on Woodward Avenue. Some stretches of Brush, Witherell, John R and Lafayette will be closed. The northbound Clifford Street ramp to Interstate 75 also is closed.

Several streets will be designated as "no parking" zones, meaning vehicles may be ticketed or towed.

Police also warn that valuables should not be left exposed in parked vehicles.

The Tigers begin a three-day home stand against the Minnesota Twins. Monday's first pitch is scheduled for 1:08 p.m.
