Mayor: Post Game Fans Helped Keep Focus On Successful Spartan Season

EAST LANSING, Mich. (WWJ/AP) - Michigan State fans have marked the Spartans' exit from the NCAA men's basketball tournament with a whimper, not a bang.

Authorities in East Lansing say police made seven arrests and firefighters handled 10 fires in the hours after Michigan State's 81-61 loss to Duke in the Final Four.

Crowds of several hundred people dissipated after a few hours Saturday night.

Officers took two people into custody for throwing lemons and several other arrests were for disorderly conduct.

East Lansing police Chief Juli Liebler says in a statement that officials "are glad that the majority of Spartan fans chose to celebrate responsibly."

Mayor Nathan Triplett says "everyone helped keep the focus on where it should be, which was a team who had a great season."
