Police Search For Thieves Who Stole ATM From Inside Gas Station In Warren

WARREN (WWJ) - The search continues for three suspects wanted for stealing an ATM from a Warren gas station. The robbery happened about 2 a.m. on Nine Mile east of Ryan Road.

The suspects needed just four minutes to rip the doors open, put a chain around the ATM, drag it out of the store and load it into an older model Jeep Grand Cherokee.

Police Commissioner Jere Green says the robbers may be disappointed to find that there's no money inside.

"It appears that the ATM is owned by a third party," Green said. "In this case, International ATM owns it, the owner does not have a key so when it's empty they have to call to have it filled back up. On Sunday, the last four people who used it were unable to get money out of it, so that kind of tells us that the thing may have been empty."

Green said that police are investigating surveillance footage showing a white hard hat in the back of the vehicle and a yellow construction vest that says "Mirrors" on it that fell out of the Jeep during their getaway.

"It looks like the plate on the Jeep is blocked out, this might indicate that the vehicle is not a stolen vehicle," Green said.

No one was injured. If you have any information regarding this incident you are asked to call Warren police.
