Man In 'American Original' Mickey Mouse Sweatshirt Robs Dearborn Diner At Gunpoint

DEARBORN (WWJ) - Police are hoping the public can help identify a man who robbed a diner in Dearborn at gunpoint.

The incident happened around 2 a.m. Sunday at Carter's Hamburgers on Outer Drive just off the Southfield Freeway.

According to police, the suspect entered the all-night diner and immediately walked behind the counter, pointing a handgun at the cashier and demanded she open the register. The cashier complied with the crook, who fled through the restaurant's back exit after taking an undisclosed amount of money. The cashier was unharmed.

"We are asking for assistance from the community to help identify the perpetrator of this brazen robbery. The bold nature of this crime suggests that the person responsible would not hesitate to put anyone in harm's way," Police Chief Ronald Haddad said in a statement.

The suspect is described as a white male, between 5'10" and 6' tall, wearing a black Carhart skull-cap, a black cloth covering his face, a navy blue hoodie with the letters "American Original" on the back along with an image of an American Flag and Mickey Mouse, very light blue jeans and blue rubber gloves. The suspect was carrying a dark-colored handgun. He could be considered armed and dangerous.

"We will continue to use all of the resources at our disposal while working with our local and state partners in law enforcement to apprehend this dangerous criminal," said Haddad.

Anyone with information on the crime or the suspect is urged to contact police at 313-943-2241 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK-UP.
