CBS DETROIT - Punctuation matters. Consider, for instance, the difference between "Let's eat Grandma!" and "Let's eat, Grandma!"
Apparently Lions fans are aware of the difference.
The automated proofreading company Grammarly reviewed 150 reader comments of 50 words or more on the website of each NFL team, and the fans with the best grammar and spelling belong to the Detroit Lions, the Wall Street Journal reported Wednesday.
Lions fans averaged 4.2 mistakes per 100 words, about four times better than Washington Redskins fans, who ranked last in the NFL with an average of 16.5 mistakes per 100 words.
An earlier study by Grammarly showed NFL fans averaged 9.9 mistakes per 100 words, which was worse than MLB and NHL fans (both 8.2) but better than NBA and NASCAR fans (10.3 and 10.5, respectively), according to the Wall Street Journal.
It does not require much of a leap to surmise all the scores would be noticeably lower were samples of writing taken from social media, including Twitter, rather than only the comment sections of team sites.
