Asst. Wayne County Prosecutor Resigns After Posting On Facebook That Violent Baltimore Protesters Should Be Shot

DETROIT (WWJ) - An Assistant Wayne Count Prosecutor has resigned over controversial comments she posted on her personal Facebook page.

Reportedly, Teana Walsh wrote Monday night that the people involved in unrest in Baltimore should be shot.

"So I am watching the news in Baltimore and see large swarms of people throwing bricks, etc at police who are fleeing from their assaults ... 15 in the hospital already. Solution. Simple. Shoot em. Period. End of discussion. I don't care what causes the protestors to turn violent...what the 'they did it because' reason is...no way is this acceptable. Flipping disgusting," the post read, according to reports.

The post has since been deleted, but not before one local attorney angered by Walsh's comments snapped a photo of it and shared it with FOX 2 News.

According to Assistant Prosecutor Maria Miller, Walsh voluntarily resigned via phone on Friday and Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy accepted her resignation.

The Prosecutor's Office released the following statement:

"During her tenure in the office Teana Walsh has  been known for her great work ethic and her compassion for victims of crime and their families. Her post was up online briefly and she immediately took it down.  The post was completely out of character for her and certainly does not reflect the person that we know. "

Walsh was out on maternity leave when she posted the comments.

Rev. Charles Williams, II, with National Action Network, Detroit Chapter, says Walsh's resignation was appropriate.

"For one who is supposed to hold the standard of court room justice and due process, it's unfortunate that she would resolve to promote, in our opinion, street corner justice by way of police officers shooting," Williams said.

WWJ Newsradio 950 has reached out to Walsh for comment.
