Funeral Held For Man Killed By ICE Agent During Raid In Detroit

DETROIT (WWJ) - Funeral services Wednesday for a 20-year old Detroit man, shot and killed by a federal agent in a case that remains under investigation.

As police continue their investigation, funeral services were held for 20-year-old Terrance Kellom of Detroit -- who was shot and killed last week by a federal agent during a raid seeking his arrest reports WWJ's Jon Hewett.

Pastor Maurice Hardwick presided over Kellom's funeral service.

"I'm so glad our city did not take a backward approach - that the family can grieve, and we shall support them for being loving and encouraging and being strong and waiting for our answer," said Hardwick.

The family of Kellom, who spoke publicly after his death, mourned in private on their son's funeral at Trinity Chapel Home.

"We do demand justice, we do demand answers," said Hardwick, "but today we demand to live in peace and let the family grieve."

Coalition Against Police Brutality's Ron Scott says it is not an isolated incident.

"We've been getting an average of 5-10 cases reported to us every day,"said Scott.

A report by the Detroit News said Mitchell Quinn, the agent involved, was charged with assault with a dangerous weapon and felony firearm in February 2008 after pointing a department-issued handgun at his wife's head during an argument about emails. His now ex-wife, a fellow Detroit police officer, was uninjured in the incident.

The charges were dismissed, but Quinn left the Detroit Police Department and joined the Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency a few months later, ultimately getting assigned to the Detroit Fugitive Apprehension Team.

Quinn, 39, was part of a task force that was sent to capture 20-year old Terrance Kellom. Authorities said Kellom, a habitual offender, had fled while on probation and was wanted as a suspect in the armed robbery of a pizza delivery man.

Police said Kellom wielded a weapon, reportedly a hammer, as he threatened the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officer who opened fire — but family members who were inside the home dispute that claim.
