Southfield-Based AV Company Expands Reach Nationally

By Edward Cardenas

SOUTHFIELD (CBS Detroit) -  Turbo Teck is looking to take its high-tech, customer-service based audio-visual business to a larger customer base with the launch of a new website.

The Southfield-based electronics accessory store launched its new website, Cablecables.com, with the idea of providing electronics hardware odds and ends at a competitive price while capitalizing on the company's location in Michigan.

"We like the fact that we don't want to become a big box store per se, but we want to stay on the web and through distribution, that is key to us," said Turbo Teck CEO Jay Askerow, who eschews the brick and mortar model for an online store.

The eight-year-old company provides high performance HDMI cables with Redmere technology; television wall mounts that can accommodate the latest curved screen televisions and invisible speakers to a larger customer base through its website.

Turbo Teck got its start as the market for HDMI cables for televisions began to grow. Askerow looked into business, and found that some name brand companies were selling cables for up to $250. Working with his suppliers, he was able to sell them for a "fraction of the price."

With their competitive pricing, the Turbo Teck was able to build their business with military, government and small chain stores.

In addition to competitive pricing, Askerow credits the company's location in the Midwest to be able to respond to customer orders quickly.

"When we have people that order from us from in New York or New Jersey, they can get (their order in) two days," Askerow said of the ability to quickly send orders with standard, rather than express, shipping from Michigan. "If that same distributor or customer is trying to order from a different company that's located in California - where the majority of the guys are - well that's four or five days."

He also is a supplier for companies building his bricks and mortar competition.

"The installers that install for the big box chains (in Michigan), they utilize all our products," he said. "Which is very flattering for us."

Askerow anticipates revenue growth to double in 2015 and triple by 2016.
