Forget To Get A Gift For Mom? Sign Her Up For Free Shooting Lessons

DETROIT (WWJ) -- It's Mother's Day -- how about shooting lessons for mom? One local firearms instructor is reaching out to women this Mother's Day.

Rick Ector of Rick's Firearms Academy in Detroit says he's giving free shooting lessons to the first 300 women who sign up.

"We have a firearms instructor who is certified through the National Rifle Association (NRA) who is there with that woman every step of the process," Ector said. "We ensure that the environment is safe and we leave women feeling very empowered."

The training will be held May 17 in Taylor at Target Sports on Ecorse Rd.

"We're going to cover range rules that must be obeyed just to ensure that everyone is not surprised as to what to expect," Ector said. "Sometime during that two-hour window, they will be put into a shooting booth with the firearm with ammunition with a credentialed National Rifle Association instructor and shoot."

Ector believes that there are many women in southeast Michigan who are curious about firearms and their role in self-defense but are reluctant to investigate due to fears.

No prior firearms training or experience is required of the women who desire to take advantage of the lesson. Experienced women wanting to improve their marksmanship skills are also welcome to attend.

The event is by registration only. You can sign up at the link HERE.
