3 Die In Head-On Crash After 16-Year-Old Driver Crosses I-94 Median

SHERIDAN TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) — Southern Michigan authorities say three people were killed when a 16-year-old driver crossed the median on Interstate 94 and struck another vehicle head-on.

The crash happened about 7:30 p.m. Sunday in Calhoun County's Sheridan Township, about 20 miles east of Albion.

The sheriff's department tells the Battle Creek Enquirer and TV stations WOOD and WWMT the Albion boy was eastbound when his vehicle hit a westbound vehicle.

The department says the crash killed a 16-year-old male passenger in the teen's car and injured two 15-year-old girls. It says a 74-year-old Jackson woman and a 77-year-old Columbus, Ohio, woman in the westbound vehicle were killed and a 57-year-old Jackson man was injured.

Authorities didn't immediately release the victims' names or the conditions of the injured.

The expressway closed for several hours.
