Police: Man Drank, Didn't Use Helmet Before ATV Crash Death

BURT TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) — State police say a 28-year-old suburban Detroit man died after drinking alcohol and speeding down an Upper Peninsula logging road on an all-terrain vehicle without wearing a helmet or seat belt.

He's identified as Christopher Purple of Madison Heights.

State police say in a statement that a 27-year-old Madison Heights woman who was a passenger on Purple's ATV received minor injuries.

They say the crash happened about 6 p.m. Sunday near Grand Sable Lake. It's southwest of Grand Marias in Alger County's Burt Township.

State police say Purple used to live in the area.
