Prosecutor: Charges Expected In Death Of Malnourished 5-Year-Old Girl

PORT HURON, Mich. (AP) - A prosecutor says charges are expected after the death of a 5-year-old Michigan girl who was found malnourished, dehydrated and physically abused in a Port Huron home.

St. Clair County Prosecutor Mike Wendling said Thursday that the charges could come Friday morning and will be followed by an arraignment.

The girl's father and stepmother were arrested after police found her unresponsive Tuesday night. She was pronounced dead at a hospital.

Public Safety Chief Michael Reaves has said the girl's death is being investigated as a homicide.

An autopsy was completed Thursday, but the results have not been made public. Medical examiners also are awaiting lab test results.

Authorities removed another severely malnourished child and two other apparently healthy children from the home, about 55 miles northeast of Detroit.
