Off-Duty D.C. Cop, Friend Injured In Dearborn Drive-By Shooting

DEARBORN (CBS Detroit) - An off-duty police officer from the nation's capitol is among two men hospitalized in Detroit following a drive-by shooting.

It happened just before 3 a.m. Monday at Michigan Avenue and Miller Road in Dearborn.

According to Dearborn police, the 32-year-old police officer and his 34-year-old friend — a Detroit man, who was driving — pulled up at a stoplight when the passenger in a car stopped next to them yelled just before the driver of that car fired four to eight shots.

The cop from out of town was shot in the side and his friend was grazed by a bullet, according to police. They were able to speed away to the 9th precinct station in Detroit and from there were taken to St. John's hospital.

Both were reported to be in stable condition, Monday afternoon, with non-life threatening injuries.

Earlier reports said the pair was at a topless bar just prior to the incident, but that hasn't been confirmed by Dearborn police. Their names were not released.

The suspect vehicle is described as a dark-colored four-door sedan, possibly a Lincoln MKZ. The driver of the suspect vehicle was described as a dark complected black male in his 20s, and the passenger as a light complected black male also in his 20s.

'This sort of criminal activity will not be tolerated," said Dearborn Police Chief Ronald Haddad, in a statement. "The Dearborn Police Department will use all of its resources to identify and arrest these suspects. We are especially asking for the public's help in identifying the suspects and sharing any information they may have about this incident."

Anyone with information about this crime is asked to contact the Dearborn Police Tip Line at 313-943-3030
