Dozens Take The Oath Of Allegiance At Comerica Park Before Tigers Game

DETROIT (WWJ) - The setting could not have been more all-American.

Detroit U.S. District Court judge Denise Paige Hood swearing in some 60 metro Detroit residents, from 23 nations, on the field at Comerica Park, before the start of Thursday's Tiger's game with the Pittsburgh Pirates.

"It's an honor for me and it's a dream that today came true," said one man.

Holding small American flags, the soon to be new U.S. citizens stood between third base and home plate for the ceremony.

"It's been almost 11 years I've been in this country and it's a proud moment for me - especially to do it in between the Detroit Tigers game," said one woman.

Chris Cumming of Rochester Hills has been in the states for almost 19 years.

"We decided to finally go through with it, instead of renewing the green card -- it's a great feeling," said Cumming.

Originally from England, Cumming shared the day with his sister and their parents, who all took the oath of citizenship.

The ceremony was one of more than 50 planned across the country for this Independence Day holiday weekend as more than 4,000 new U.S. citizens are given the opportunity to pursue their American dream.
