When it was announced that future Hall of Fame first baseman Miguel Cabrera was going to miss six weeks with a calf strain, many wondered who would fill his shoes on the diamond.

On Saturday, catcher Alex Avila -- fresh off the disabled list -- was asked to make his major league debut at first base. He passed the defensive requirement with flying colors with this catch against the Toronto Blue Jays...

 

Playing like that, Avila could win a full-time gig manning the first base line, and let James McCann catch -- as many fans want.
