J.D. Martinez, Price, Iglesias Named All-Star Reserves; Cespedes In Final Vote

DETROIT (CBS Detroit) -- The Detroit Tigers had three players named to the American League All-Star team as reserves on Monday.

Outfielder J.D. Martinez, starting pitcher David Price, and shortstop Jose Iglesias will represent the Tigers in Cincinnati on July 14. Outfielder Yoenis Cespedes has been chosen to participate in the final fan vote for the last spot on the American League roster.

The final vote will come down to Cespedes, Boston Red Sox shortstop Xander Bogaerts, Minnesota Twins second baseman Brian Dozier, New York Yankees outfielder Brett Gardner, and Kansas City Royals third baseman Mike Moustakas.

Martinez is batting .285 with 23 home runs and 56 RBIs so far this season. Martinez is one of four Major Leaguers to hit nine homers in 44-or-fewer at-bats this season, joining Nelson Cruz of the Seattle Mariners, Bryce Harper of the Washington Nationals and Giancarlo Stanton of the Miami Marlins.

In 17 starts this season, Price 2.54 ERA and 1.13 WHIP. He is sixth in the American League in strikeouts (107).

After sitting out the 2014 season, Iglesias is fourth in the American League in batting average (.323).

First baseman Miguel Cabrera was voted in by fans to start the game, but will sit out after injuring his left calf against the Pirates last week. Los Angeles Angels slugger Albert Pujols will make the start in place of Cabrera.
