Southfield Woman Dies A Week After House Fire Claims Young Brother's Life

SOUTHFIELD (WWJ/AP) - Officials say a 23-year-old woman has died from smoke inhalation a week after a fire that also claimed the life of her 10-year-old brother.

The fire happened early June 30 at a home on Marshall Street, in a neighborhood near 12 Mile and Greenfield roads in Southfield.

Fire Battalion Chief Barry White said crews were on the scene for about three minutes before they found the woman and her kid brother, Nathaniel Mosby, huddled together on the floor of a bedroom.

Firefighters rescued the siblings from the burning home and rushed both to Beaumont Hospital, where Mosby was later pronounced dead.

The woman was transferred to University of Toledo Hospital, where she remained on a ventilator until her death. Her name has not yet been released.

The fire appears to have started in the rear of the house, although a cause remains under investigation. According to reports, the home did not have any working smoke detectors.
