Woman, 57, Killed By Robotic Machine At Factory In Ionia

IONIA, Mich. (AP) - Police say a 57-year-old employee at an automotive stamping facility in Michigan died after she got caught in a robotic machine.

Ionia police say the employee of Ventra Ionia Main was reported trapped around 2:20 p.m. Tuesday. Police say officers and co-workers freed her from the machine, but she died at the scene.

The Grand Rapids Press says police identify her as Wanda J. Holbrook of Grand Rapids. She was a 12-year company employee and worked in the maintenance department. The company makes auto bumpers, trailer hitches and chrome-plated plastics.

Ionia authorities and the Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration are investigating.

Stroo Funeral Homes in Grand Rapids says it will hold visitation Sunday from 2 to 6 p.m. and says funeral details will be announced later.
