Detroit Tigers Officially Release Joba Chamberlain

DETROIT (CBS Detroit) — Detroit Tigers relief pitcher Joba Chamberlain has officially been released into free agency by the Detroit Tigers, the team announced Friday.

Chamberlain was designated for assignment along with fellow reliever Tom Gorzelanny on July 3. Chamberlain allowed three solo home runs against the Pittsburgh Pirates on July 7, raising his season ERA to 4.29.

Chamberlain's ERA in 11 outings since the beginning of June was an astronomical 10.00.

The team called up right-hander Jeff Ferrell to replace Chamberlain in the Tigers' struggling bullpen.
