Parents, Kids Find Fun Way To Beat The Heat

MADISON HEIGHTS (WWJ) - With the hot temperatures, it's been a busy couple of weeks at local water parks.

At Oakland County's Red Oaks in Madison Heights, Parks Supervisor Matt Pardy says there were a couple of days where the park had to be closed to more patrons because it was at capacity.

"Right now we are kind of on target with last year, we've had a couple of relatively slower summers and we had 2010, 2011, and 2012 -- were three very hot, very busy summers and then the last two were a little bit slower and this one is kind of on pace with that - still we've got a month left of summer and it remains to see what happens," said Pardy.

Pardy says he had to put on more staff on hot days, to allow for more breaks from the heat for the workers.

Hundreds packed the park Wednesday before the storms hit - taking turns on the triple slides, getting doused on the or rolling down the Lazy River.

Laura Jennabed of Romeo says she's been at the water park with her kids twice over the past two weeks.

"It's fun for the parents too, I mean we are having a blast. It's great, the weather is awesome," she said.

Her favorite part is the Lazy River. "That's exactly what it is, you get in it and you'll be lazy," she laughed. "You float around and you talk - just kind of stay away from the kids - that's it."

Pardy says he had to put on more staff on hot days, to allow for more breaks from the heat for the workers.
