Detroit Hosts Country's Largest Rib Fest This Weekend In Hart Plaza

DETROIT (WWJ) - It's deemed the largest Rib Fest in the country -- and it's happening this weekend in the D.

It's the 19th annual Ribs and R&B Music Festival, taking place Friday, Aug. 7 through Sunday Aug. 9 at Hart Plaza.

Besides all the ribs you can eat, the festival features Grammy-award winning soloist Regina Bell, as well as performances by popular 80s groups Confunction and the Dazz Band.

Johnny Washington, the festival's producer, said the family friendly event draws crowds from all over.

"It has grown to be, in the last 14 years, a national attraction for the city of Detroit, because they come in from all over the country," Washington told WWJ's Chrystal Knight. "For example, JET Magazine has done an editorial, giving it national appeal."

The festival runs Friday from 11 a.m. to midnight; Saturday from noon to midnight; and Sunday from noon to midnight.

Admission is free all day Friday and Saturday, and Sunday until 2 p.m. After that, admission will be $5 per person.
