Northville, Rochester Top List Of "10 Snobbiest Places In Michigan"

DETROIT (CBS Detroit) - Which are the snobbiest cities in Michigan? That's 'obviously subjective — but the website RoadSnacks.net, nonetheless, has put together a list.

"Now, if you're reading this from Michigan, you might think that there's no way you could be a snob. With your mid-western hospitality and attitude, you bask in humble pie," writes Chris Kolmar. "And while you certainly may be less snooty than the rest of the country, there are always pockets of snobbery in every state and Michigan is no exception."

Here's the rundown:

  1. Northville
  2. Rochester
  3. Plymouth
  4. Royal Oak
  5. Traverse City
  6. Petoskey
  7. Troy
  8. Novi
  9. Okemos
  10. Saline

RoadSnacks' mission, according to the website, is to "paint a picture of what's happening in a region based on "Friday Night Science" — how'd you argue at a bar." To do that, they gather data from around the web to help determine a wide array of factors about where you live, things like safety, desirability and culture.

This particular list, RoadSnacks says, is based on some actual facts and figures, taking into account: median home price (higher is snobbier); median household income (higher is snobbier); percent of population with a college degree (higher is snobbier); private schools per capita (higher is snobbier); theaters per capita (higher is snobbier); and art galleries per capita (higher is snobbier).

Is that a fair evaluation? Are there cities on the list you believe don't belong there — or some that are missing?

Rodger Willis of Novi was actually surprised to see his fair city ranked so low.

"We should give (Northville) a run for their money," he said. "We're right next door to each other, so the subdivisions are about the same as they are there, and kinda the attitude is a little bit the same."

A Detroit resident told WWJ Newsradio 950's Laura Bonnell he was surprised that Ann Arbor didn't make the cut.

Arthur, of Southfield, said he would have assumed Grosse Pointe, which he claims "is known for that," would appear.
