Michigan State Police Probing Troopers' Accounts On 'Ashley Madison'

LANSING (AP) - Michigan State Police officials say they're launching a probe into accounts associated with at least two troopers on the cheating website Ashley Madison.

A spokeswoman tells MLive.com Friday the department is opening the administrative investigation. Tiffany Brown says "there is no legitimate investigatory reason one of our members would have for establishing an account" using state email addresses.

Hackers this week released records on millions of people registered with the website one month after the break-in at Ashley Madison's parent company, Toronto-based Avid Life Media Inc.

MLive discovered the email addresses associated with troopers and others with state employees. The Associated Press found U.S. government employees with sensitive jobs in national security or law enforcement were among hundreds of federal workers found using government networks to access the site.
