Meijer Warns About Fake Coupon Circulating Through Facebook

DETROIT (CBS Detroit) Even in the brave new world of the Internet, the old adage holds true: If it seems too good to be true, it probably is.

That lesson was learned the hard way for fans of Meijer who thought a '$100 off' coupon circulating around Facebook was real. The company issued a statement on Facebook setting it straight.

Sorry folks, this offer is fake. A fraudulent coupon for $100 off your order at Meijer is circulating on the Web. Be safe and always clip your coupons from mPerks.

MPerks is a digital coupon system that was expanded in 2013 to include pharmacy purchases. To start earning rewards, customers go to http://mperks.meijer.com and sign up in the "rewards" section.

Meijer did hand out $10 coupons earlier this year as an apology for a computer system failure that left people unable to pay with a debit card.
