Train Plows Into Parked Car In Macomb Twp. Just As Deputies Arrive [VIDEO]

MACOMB TWP. (CBS Detroit) A local man immediately got on the phone to the Macomb County Sheriff's Department when he saw a man stumble away from a silver Dodge Charger parked smack in the middle of railroad tracks.

Sheriff Anthony Wickersham reported the call came at about 10:30 p.m. Saturday regarding the incident on the tracks off Fairchild Road between Hall Road and 21 Mile Road in Macomb Township.

The car was on the railroad tracks facing southwest as a northeast bound train was approaching.

"Just as one of the sheriff's deputies arrived to investigate, the approaching train struck the car head-on," police said in a press release. "The impact propelled the now-unoccupied car off the tracks, across Fairchild and onto L'Anse Creuse (school) property."

No one was injured in the crash, however, the 2014 Dodge Charger was heavily damaged.

Deputies would later learn that the driver had driven onto the railroad tracks and had gotten his vehicle stuck.  He got out of the vehicle just before the approaching train struck the car.

Police found the operator of the car, a 23 year-old Shelby Township man, who told deputies he had swerved to avoid a deer and that is how his vehicle ended up on the railroad tracks.
