Phillips Recalls Light Bulbs That May Shatter Causing Injury

DETROIT (CBS Detroit) - Phillips is recalling halogen light bulbs after reports of shattering, property damage and injuries.

In a safety warning sent out on Friday, Phillips said about 370,000 60W PAR 16 120V Halogen Bulbs are included in the recall.

The company says the lens of the bulb can shatter in the lamp or the lens fall come off and shatter, posing a laceration and burn hazard.

Philips has received a total of 13 reports of the lens of the bulb shattering, including five reports of property damage totaling about $700, and two laceration injuries.

The bulbs were manufactured from November 2013 to March 2015 and sold at stores including Home Depot for about $10. the bulbs were also sold online at Amazon.com.

Date codes that represent the month and year of production are painted on the bulb glass along with "PHILIPS Halogena PAR 16," "China" and "60W/120/V."

Consumers who own the bulbs  should immediately stop using them, remove them from any fixtures and contact Philips to request packaging materials and instructions for returning the recalled bulbs for free.

Philips will provide free replacement bulbs.
