Officials: 1 Found Dead After Storage Building Wall Collapse

WEBBERVILLE (AP) - A 22-year-old worker who was engulfed by grain after a storage building wall collapsed in Michigan was found dead Thursday, officials said.

The contractor for Archer Daniels Midland, identified as Joshua McGhee of Petersburg, was pronounced dead at the scene following an all-night search in Webberville, the Ingham County sheriff's department said.

The wall collapsed about 1:15 p.m. Wednesday, trapping McGhee under a large pile of grain, and rescue crews arrived to find workers trying to rescue him. Crews had to pull out after about an hour due to potential hazards from the collapsed structure and shifting grain, but efforts to find McGhee continued.

"Planning for recovery efforts began which involved calling in large cranes to assist in removing the structure, and additional technical experts for debris removal," the sheriff's department said in a statement.

McGhee was found about 2:30 a.m. Thursday, the sheriff's department said. Officials earlier said they had accounted for all other workers.

Company spokeswoman Jackie Anderson said in a statement that safety "is a top priority at all of our facilities" and "our thoughts are with ... family and friends" of the contractor. The cause of the collapse is under investigation.

Chicago-based Archer Daniels Midland produces food ingredients, animal feeds and feed ingredients, biofuels and other products.

Webberville is about 60 miles northwest of Detroit.
