Woman With Concealed Pistol License Opens Fire On Shoplifting Suspect In Home Depot Parking Lot

AUBURN HILLS (CBS Detroit) Eyewitnesses said they saw a 46-year-old Clarkston woman take aim and fire at the vehicle of a man who had fled Home Depot with a big box inside his cart, running fast through the parking lot.

He had apparently stolen a drill from inside the store.

It happened at 2 p.m. Oct. 6 at Home Depot on Joslyn Road, police said.

According to eyewitnesses who called a local radio station this morning, the woman who shot at the shoplifting suspect's ride fired three times, spacing out her shots to take aim. She hit one of the tires on his dark-colored SUV, but the man and his companion still managed to flee.

"The customer a concealed pistol license (CPL) holder," police said in a press release.

They would not comment further on the legality of the woman's actions, but many report that CPL license holders are trained not to intervene in situations where bystanders could be harmed.

This comes just a couple of weeks after an incident in Warren where a 63-year-old man with a concealed license permit opened fire and hit a bank robbery suspect.

In both instances, police said the customer with the conceal pistol license who opened fire cooperated with them afterward.

The Home Depot shoplifting suspect is described as an African American man in his 40's.  In his SUV was a second suspect described as a white male 40-50 years old, who was wearing a black shirt with yellow writing on it and a black baseball cap.

"The incident was contained to the parking lot and the matter remains under investigation," police said.

Anyone with information on this incident or knows the suspects please contact the Auburn Hills Police Department at 248-370-9444.
